Google is set to expand its Pixel lineup with the much-anticipated Pixel 9a, a more affordable alternative to the Pixel 9 series. While Google hasn’t officially confirmed its launch, reports say the smartphone could arrive in March 2025. Fresh leaks hint at what we might expect in terms of design, display, camera, and performance. If the reports hold true, the Pixel 9a is anticipated to bring major changes, including a larger battery, a strong CPU, and a fresh design. Here’s everything we know so far.
Pixel 9a Design and Display
One of the biggest changes in the Pixel 9a is its look. Google is purportedly going away from the visor-like camera island found on the Pixel 8a, replacing it with a flat back camera module. The gadget is projected to be slightly larger than its predecessor, measuring 154 x 73.3 x 8.9mm, mainly due to a bigger 6.3-inch display and a larger battery.
Renders imply the Pixel 9a will come in four hues – Iris (Blue), Obsidian (Black), Peony (Pink), and Porcelain (White) – replicating the Pixel 9 series. It is also expected to feature an IP68 water and dust resistant rating.
Pixel 9a Specifications (Rumoured)
Under the hood, the Pixel 9a is said to be powered by Google’s Tensor G4 SoC, the same chipset used in the Pixel 9 series. It will also incorporate Google’s Titan M2 security chip for improved protection. Unlike its expensive competitors, the Pixel 9a is slated to come with Android 15 out of the box, making it one of the first handsets to ship with Google’s latest software.
Camera Setup
When it comes to the camera system, the Pixel 9a will feature significant upgrades over its predecessor. The 48MP primary sensor will be accompanied by a 13MP Sony IMX712 ultra-wide sensor, both of which will deliver crisp and detailed photos. The ultra-wide lens will offer an expanded view, perfect for capturing landscapes or group shots. Additionally, the 13MP selfie camera will provide excellent quality for video calls and selfies.
Camera Specification | Expected Details |
Primary Camera | 48MP |
Ultra-Wide Camera | 13MP Sony IMX712 |
Front Camera (Selfie) | 13MP |
Battery Life and Charging
One of the most exciting features of the Pixel 9a is its 5,100mAh battery, the largest ever in a Pixel smartphone. This larger battery size will likely provide improved battery life, allowing users to get through the day without worrying about recharging. Charging speeds are expected to stay at 23W for wired charging and 7.5W wireless charging, similar to the Pixel 8a.
Pixel 9a Price in India, Launch Date (Expected)
According to sources, the Pixel 9a will be priced at $499 (approximately Rs 42,000) for the 128GB model. In India, it could be priced at roughly Rs 50,000. If the reports are genuine, Google will likely debut the Pixel 9a on March 19, with official sales commencing on March 26.
